Biography

Riaan Zoetmulder, PhD, is a Machine Learning Research Engineer specializing in medical computer vision, deep learning, and software development. He currently works at Royal Philips on innovative green field projects involving generative AI, neural Schrödinger Bridge methods, and GraphRAG knowledge systems.
Riaan's academic background includes a cum laude MSc in Artificial Intelligence and a PhD from the University of Amsterdam. His published research spans reputable journals like NeuroImage: Clinical, focussing on deep-learning based stroke segmentation and detection, transfer learning, and neuroimaging analysis.
Beyond his technical expertise he enjoys participating in improv comedy. Since 2021, he has performed as an amateur improvisational comedian, a role that allows him to spend time with funny people, entertain, and think on his feet.

What I Can Do
From translating one script into another to spotting dangerous strokes in brain scans — I love turning ambitious ML ideas into working systems. Whether it's medical imaging, natural language, neural Schrödinger Bridge methods, or GraphRAG knowledge systems, I'm always exploring what's next.
- Medical Computer Vision
- Generative AI
- PyTorch & TensorFlow
- Teaching & Mentorship
Give me a blank canvas and I'll build you something beautifully useful. I thrive on greenfield projects — architecting clean, maintainable, and well-documented systems from scratch. And yes, I pair-program with AI to ship faster without cutting corners.
- Clean Architecture & Code
- AI-Driven and Optimized
What brings it all together? Translating zeros and ones into normal person speak and vice versa. I bridge the gap between engineers and stakeholders, keeping everyone aligned and projects moving — no death-by-meeting required.
- Stakeholder Management
- Cross-functional collaboration
